Traveling onward through our Chakra system, our next stop is our fifth Chakra space....our THROAT CHAKRA. Our Throat Chakras are so incredibly important! And.... If you missed last week's post on the Heart Chakra, I encourage you to check it out! As the weeks go on, we are learning that our Chakras are not independent of one another. Each one depends upon the Chakras above and/or below it. This is very important as we arrive at our Throat Chakra or our VISUDDHA CHAKRA, which means PURIFICATION in Sanskrit.

The Throat Chakra is our fifth Chakra in our system. If you notice down below in The 7 Chakras of the Human Body, you will see our Throat Chakra at the center of the neck and throat space, however, some believe it also governs the area of the shoulders and the upper back. The color is BLUE. The Affirmation is I SPEAK.

Our Throat Chakra, or Visuddha Chakra, literally means PURIFICATION. Located at the neck, the Fifth Chakra is the NARROWEST Chakra in the body. This narrow Chakra is where we PURIFY the energy of our lower Chakras leading to our upper Chakras. Think of it as a channel of purification!

Some food for we travel to the upper Chakras, our energy and Chakras become more about our awareness, thoughts and insight. If we think about it, we definitely want our awareness, thoughts and insight to be purified and "sound" in order to properly function! More about this in the next two weeks!

Now back to the Throat Chakra.....

The element of the Throat Chakra is SOUND, which makes sense given that it is located in the area of our neck and throat. The Throat Chakra's properties are communication, creativity, and truth. At this space, we literally can speak our voice. At this space, we can also SPEAK OUR TRUTH. You could say that to speak the truth is to "purify" your words! When we speak our truth and use our voice, we open up our creativity. When we can't speak our truth, speak our minds, or voice our opinions, our fifth Chakra might start to shut down or become blocked.

When we speak, our voice is a created by the vibration of our vocal cords. Vibration is energy. When our fifth Chakra is blocked, the vibration, or energy, doesn't move. According to Anodea Judith, when we are afraid to speak up or use our voice, we are literally deadening our vibration of the fifth Chakra. The vibration stops. The energy stops. This is not something we want to happen as we travel through the upper Chakras!

●MAKE NOISE: Sing and Dance! Put on some music in your car or your house and belt out your favorite song. We all know how good it feels to sing at the top of our lungs to a favorite song. Now we know why!

●JOURNAL: I recommend free journaling. PIck up a pen, set a timer for 10 minutes and just WRITE! Let it all out. Don't edit what you are saying. Don't worry about punctuation. Let all of your thoughts out. Speak your voice, even if it is on paper.

●TELL YOUR STORY: Have you ever thought about how good it feels to vent sometimes and get our stories out? We are releasing the blocked energy and activating the vibration of our fifth Chakra. Tell your story and listen to others' stories as well.

●Yoga Postures, such as neck stretches, shoulder openers, and some inversions. Examples would be Downward-facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana), Fish Pose (Matsyasana) and Shoulderstand (Salamba Sarvangasana.) See Below!

Lateral Neck Stretch with Extended Arm--Switch to the other side too!

Next week, we turn to our sixth Chakra, our THIRD EYE CHAKRA! This is the chakra of our intuition and sight. Now after learning about the Throat Chakra we know why we want our energy balanced and purified as we travel to the sixth Chakra! Until next week.......
